Imigrants wave

Hy all:

We are living hard days in the Canary Islands. We are a small archipelago 80 Km from Africa´s west coast coast. Since last weekend near a thousand african inmigrants have arrived to our coasts. This is much more than our land can stand. Regional goverment is asking for help to the national goverment, because we don´t have resources enough yet to give inmigrants a bed.

They travel across the atlantic ocean from Africa to the Canary islands in ships like this, called "cayuco":

A few great Linux tools

I´m not an extremist. I think you can find good thing inside both windows and Linux worlds. Due to some practical exercices I had to do for a college course I´ve learn how to install and configure some really amazing open software network administration tools.

BIND
-> A DNS server that can help you to speed up your internet experience.
Pure-ftp -> Your own ftp server.
Postfix -> Your own email server.
Dovecot -> Imap and pop3 server easy to use with Postfix
IPTABLES -> A firewall inside Linux Kernel.
DHCPD -> A good DHCP server.

With these couple of tools you can enhance your internet experience and of course improve the security of your private network. If you work on a small office you can enable a mail service, a DHCP server to boost mobility, and a ftp server to keep documentation or any other kind of stuff you need to share with your jobmates.

If you or the people you work with love windows, don´t worry, you can install all this software on a Linux maching, and still continue using your windows box, requesting services from the Linux server.

Of course you can find similar tools for windows, but these are stable, secure, and mature software in use for many years, and with a lot of documentation.

Remember that open software spreads knowlege freedom over the world. Don´t forget to visit the Free Software Foundation, one of the seeds of this movement.

Not so fast

I´ve been training hard, my friends know it, but finally it wasn´t enough to improve my marks. I spent exactly the same time than the last half marathon I run, in November 2005. I´m not happy, I know I can do it better, and I´ll train harder.
